Specialist support

My counselling services

Whilst I am able to support you with a range of concerns — anxiety, depression, grief and loss — I have specialist expertise and experience in four areas. Explore each below.

Fertility Counselling

A compassionate space for the complex emotions and invisible grief that can accompany fertility challenges — the loss, longing, and hope that often exist side by side.

Whether you have received a concrete diagnosis of male or female infertility, or your inability to conceive has been labelled "unexplained infertility", facing difficulties conceiving can feel overwhelming, isolating, and emotionally exhausting. You may be feeling nervous about embarking on fertility treatment, struggling with unsuccessful cycles or miscarriage, or considering moving on.

Despite what our logical minds might tell us, many of us feel that if we decide we want children, we should be able to have them. For both men and women, struggling to conceive can feel like a failure and may trigger feelings of shame and worthlessness. Relationships with partners, family, friends and colleagues may be impacted. Suddenly you are facing a life unexpected — and it all feels out of your control.

Counselling provides a safe and supportive space to:

  • Navigate the grief, stress, and uncertainty of infertility
  • Cope with the emotional ups and downs of fertility treatments
  • Strengthen your relationship and communication with your partner, friends and family
  • Explore meaning, resilience, and hope during a difficult chapter
  • If appropriate, consider your options — including treatment with donated gametes, adoption or, possibly, a life without children

You are welcome whether attending as an individual or couple, in a heterosexual or same-sex relationship, or going it alone. For those considering fertility treatment using donated gametes, I also offer implications counselling to support you in making the right decision for you.

Miscarriage & baby loss

Losing a baby at any stage is a profound and heartbreaking experience. For those who have undergone fertility treatment, miscarriage can add yet another layer of grief. These losses often happen early, before public pregnancy announcements, making the experience an invisible and difficult-to-measure sorrow.

  • Process grief, sadness, anger, or guilt following miscarriage
  • Navigate difficult conversations with partners, family, friends, or medical providers
  • Take time to recover and heal
  • Explore options and next steps without judgement

  • Process grief, sadness, anger, or guilt following miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss
  • Honour your baby and your unique journey through loss

Couples & Relationship Counselling

"Love is a verb. Not a permanent state of enthusiasm."— Esther Perel

Couples seek counselling for a wide range of reasons:

  • Communication & conflict — frequent arguments, difficulty expressing feelings or needs, feeling unheard or misunderstood
  • Emotional connection — feeling disconnected, loss of intimacy or affection, rebuilding trust after a betrayal
  • Life transitions and stresses — transitioning to parenthood, career changes, caring for ageing parents, adjusting to illness or loss
  • Mental health & wellbeing — managing anxiety, stress or depression, or supporting a partner through these; addressing co-dependency or unhealthy dynamics
  • Relationship structure & direction — long-term compatibility, next steps (marriage, co-habiting, parenthood), or considering separation or divorce

How counselling helps

In sessions, you and your partner will learn practical tools for healthy communication, explore patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and develop strategies to support each other more effectively. The focus is not on assigning blame, but on building stronger foundations for your relationship.

For it to have the best chance of success, both partners should be prepared to invest in the process, showing up with openness and curiosity. In most cases I will suggest occasional individual sessions with each of you, which can help bring to light and work on any obstacles to the couples therapy.

Not all couples counselling results in couples strengthening their relationship. In some cases the healthiest outcome may be separation — in which case counselling can help explore ways to do this safely and respectfully.

Who can benefit — couples counselling is helpful whether you're:

  • In the early stages of a relationship
  • Preparing for major life transitions
  • Experiencing recurring conflicts or distance
  • Seeking to reconnect and strengthen your bond
  • Considering separation and wanting clarity

Life Transitions Counselling

When life changes feel overwhelming.

"The best way out is always through."— Robert Frost

Transitions — even positive ones — can stir up stress, uncertainty, and emotional strain. Whether planned or unexpected, big life changes often bring up questions of identity, purpose, and belonging. Counselling provides a space to pause, reflect, and find your way forward.

Times where counselling can be helpful:

  • Career changes, retirement, or job loss
  • Moving, relocation, or cultural adjustment
  • Changes in relationships or family dynamics
  • Becoming a parent, or adjusting to children leaving home
  • Menopause
  • Illness, caregiving, or shifts in health
  • Grief, loss, or other unexpected life events

How counselling helps

Together we'll make space to process the emotions that come with change — stress, grief, anxiety or uncertainty — while gaining clarity and confidence in your decision-making. Sessions help you develop coping strategies to manage transitions with resilience, reconnect with your values, strengths and identity, and explore new possibilities for growth and meaning.
